Items of business include a request by our Rallying Points consultant, Donna Bales, for us to conduct a community survey to identify key community groups that we would like to make aware of our work and from whom we could get valuable information about the end-of-life needs of our community. The basic idea is to create a running list of key community contacts. Who serves citizens nearing end of life? Who cares for them? Who are they? We will use this list to help us determine appropriate participants for the listening session/s that our proposed Rallying Points certificate will help us organize and conduct. Here is an example of the type of information we are looking for:
Name of Group |
Purpose/Mission |
Types of Members |
EX: MidSouth Hospizarbeit und Bioethik Coalition |
To improve end-of-life care within the community |
Individuals, members of the healthcare community, representatives from various community groups |
If you will not be coming to Saturday's meeting but can think of groups that should be included in our survey, please send us their names, and if possible, their purpose/mission and types of members.
In addition, because of the diversity of our community, Donna has asked that we identify any groups of which we are aware that are working on issues of diversity and/or disparity.
We will also discuss our role in the upcoming Cashdollar Lecture, which will be held from 9:00 A.M. to noon on Friday, November 14, at Christ United Methodist Church, which is located at 4488 Poplar Avenue. This year's topic is: Respect as a Foundation for Palliative Care: Being with Dying. The speaker is Dr. Cynda Rushton, who is an Assistant Professor of Nursing and Faculty of the Bioethics Institute, Johns Hopkins University and a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Ethics at Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore, Maryland. The lecture will be followed by a panel presentation entitled: Case Studies in Pediatric Palliative Care.
