May 2004
All, we are delighted to announce that the May 15 Hospizarbeit und Bioethik Coalition meeting at the Germantown library was well attended, with a total of 14 present, 11 of whom were new to the coalition. Dr. Teresa Cutts facilitated. Dr. Joe Blythe gave a report on the Bioethics Consortium's first Rallying Points certificate, the Respecting Choices training and certification program in advance care planning that was presented by Dr. Bud Hammes of Gunderson Lutheran during the first week in May.
We also viewed an advance care planning video produced by the Tennessee End-of-Life Partnership (TELP). This video, which features vignettes with members of two families, is very well done, is under 15 minutes long, and is available to purchase for $19.95. If you are interested in previewing or purchasing the TELP video, please contact Jane at [email protected]
A Rallying Points certificate is a program that is funded entirely or in part by Rallying Points. The April 22 Matters of Life and Death forum, which was the Hospizarbeit und Bioethik Coalition's first Rallying points certificate, was funded entirely by Rallying Points. When/if we apply for a second certificate, we will need to defray 33% of its cost. Leslie is collecting feedback regarding potential program choices for a second Rallying Points certificate targeting caregivers. Information about available certificates is on the web at the following Rallying Points webpages.

If you have comments about potential certificate programs, you may e-mail Leslie at [email protected]
Paul has organized a task group to determine how to inform the community of the services and links available through the CCC. The first meeting of that task force is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday morning, May 26. If you are interesting in volunteering for that task force and have not communicated with Paul, you may e-mail him at [email protected]
We are still in need of volunteers for a task group to begin work on organizing our Speaker's Bureau.
The next Hospizarbeit und Bioethik meeting will be held from 10:00 A.M. to noon on Saturday, June 19, in the Community Room of the Church Health Center's Hope & Healing facility at 1115 Union Avenue. Parking is free and plentiful. Please join us to help plan next steps for the coalition. Best regards, Emily
