Minutes from March 10th Meeting
1. In order to proceed with the legal matters, we needed
a name and also a mission.
Our name is the Midsouth Hospizarbeit und Bioethik Coalition.
Our mission is to serve as a broad-based
community network to educate the
members of the community and advocate
for people with life-threatening illnesses
and EOL concerns.
Thanks to facilitators Pat and Jane!
Any mistakes are strictly mine.
2. We also looked at a number of issues
and concerns that we are working on.
Advance Directives Workshop at Buckman Laboratories
We plan to schedule for April, with possible dates of
April 2 and 8th. Jane and Jeff will co-present.
Others who are interested and will be present include
Emily, Susan, and myself. We are looking at two
presentations. I will connect our group to the
Buckman nurse, Phyllis Lacki.
Speakers Bureau
This is in progress. Deborah Gibson is the
focal point. We have an opportunity to present
at a Businesswoman/Professional woman's conference,
as per Susan.
Survey
The survey goes out March 17th to the churches.
Listing of grief support groups/linking with the library website
Susan has talked to the lady at the library (forgive me for
forgetting her name or is it Audrey?) We will ask her to a future meeting
and pursue this. The Memphis library has a site that
lists such groups, with an enthusiastic lady running it.
We would like to be added to the website list.
We also had meant to discuss AIDS support groups, but
did not get around to doing so. We will follow up at the
next meeting.
Funding strategies
Jacquelyn participated in the conference call held recently.
She gave us a summary, and shared other information.
Family with the dying six year old
Several of us to include Jacquelyn, Pat and Jane
had talked with the mother of a foster child who
has a degenerative and fatal brain disease so that
he could get proper care. We talked about what had
happened. We also discussed how we need to set boundaries,
particularly that our purpose is to give information, but not
make decisions for anyone.
Justice in Healthcare Foundation
As for now, we will take no action. Jane will continue
to monitor.
Meeting Informally
At the meeting at the community center following
the Cashdollar lecture we started to talk about the reasons
that led each of us to join this group. But sadly we did
not get to finish. We would like to offer the opportunity
to do this, probably at someone's home. I offered my
home, as I have a screened-in porch and Jane also
has offered hers. Additionally, Jacquelyn has offered to
find us a home in which to meet.
In future meetings we will track the things we are
involved in.
